SPHERES

Sectors for Planetary Health Engagement & Resilience

Safeguarding Earth’s life support systems requires a whole-of-society approach. Each sector can work towards this goal in complementary and interconnected ways. Explore your sphere of impact.

SPHERES helps individuals find their place in this movement. By connecting personal identity with sector-wide solidarity, it fosters engagement that is both meaningful and sustainable.

Explore Your Spheres of Impact

Actions span across four spheres.

Together, these illustrate how the SPHERES framework connects individual agency and sector-level solidarity, reinforcing one another and turning professional identity into movement-building power.

Practice

The choices and actions taken in daily professional roles

What actions can each of us take in our own place of work (e.g., classroom, clinic, farm, factory, restaurant, lab, etc.)?

Colleagues

The networks of peers, students, and professional bodies

How can we establish expectations—education, mentorship, collaboration, standards—within networks of peers, students, and professional bodies?

Society

The outward-facing dimension that connects to civic action

How can our sector's credibility, expertise, advocacy, and storytelling encourage the public to act?

Self

The integration of identity, values & action

How can who we are—and the impact we can have—motivate us, support resilience, and sustain purposeful engagement?

Find Your Sector

Launching with Clinicians for Planetary Health (C4PH) as the first featured sector, SPHERES offers a clear, adaptable framework that other communities of practice can build upon—turning individual agency into collective momentum for a thriving, livable future.

We will be expanding to other sectors–and weaving together work across sectors. Sign up and stay tuned for updates.

Calling All Clinicians

Originally formed on Earth Day 2019, Clinicians for Planetary Health (C4PH) mobilizes clinicians worldwide to address the Earth crisis and its threats to human well-being, positioning them as trusted voices for solutions.

Clinicians, who collectively interact with nearly everyone on Earth, are uniquely positioned to frame Planetary Health not only as an environmental issue but also as a public health imperative tied to a livable future. Its inclusive definition of “clinician” embraces diverse practitioners and Indigenous healers, reflecting a commitment to equity and cultural respect.

Within SPHERES, C4PH exemplifies how the Health & Care Sector can activate all four spheres—practice, colleagues, society, and self. It shows how solidarity across borders and disciplines transforms professional identity into movement building, systems change, and renewed engagement.
