World Obesity Federation works with its members and partners to prevent, manage and treat obesity globally. A particular area of interest is the Global Syndemic of Obesity, Undernutrition and Climate Change, and the shared drivers and dysfunctional systems that need to be urgently addressed. World Obesity is working to convene leaders to help break down silos and collaborate effectively across these issues, with a particular focus on addressing food systems and urban environments. By working with the Planetary Alliance we hope to foster collaboration and joined up thinking to protect the health of our people, environment and planet.

At World Wildlife Fund (WWF), our mission is to conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to the diversity of life on Earth, focusing our work around six ambitious goals for healthy Climate, Food, Forests, Freshwater, Oceans, and Wildlife. Our unique way of working combines a global reach of more than 100 countries with a foundation in science, involves action at every level from local to global, and ensures the delivery of innovative solutions that protect communities, wildlife, and the places in which they live. With human health and the health of our environment inextricably linked, WWF strives to bring a stronger practice of conservation into the holistic paradigm of Planetary Health. Through contributing thought partnership to multi-disciplinary dialogue around planetary health, and likewise integrating the science of impacts of environmental degradation on human health into effective conservation, we envision bolstering solutions and a narrative that translate consistently across conservation and public health disciplines, securing greater attention, momentum, political will, and ultimately interventions that can withstand the winds of change in governments – and yield the scale of results our changing world needs. This might be done through joint communications, targeted workshops, advocacy campaigns with new collaborators, or other avenues to which WWF can directly contribute.

As a member of the Planetary Health Alliance, the Yale Climate Change and Health Initiative contributes to planetary health through its efforts to 1) train future leaders; 2) provide a comprehensive educational program; 3) catalyze innovative research; and 4) perform public health practice, all to address climate change, one of the greatest public health challenges of the 21st century.

The ultimate Mission of the Yale School of Nursing is better health for all people. We accomplish this by educating each generation of nurse leaders, scholars and practitioners; transforming healthcare practice; and advancing science. Building on the tradition of our Founding Dean, Annie W. Goodrich, the YSN community relates the “adventure of thought to the adventure of action, in touch with the fundamentals of human experience” across local, national and international systems of care.

The Youth Climate Report is dedicated to collaborating with the global community of youth as well as those groups and organizations devoted to representing and amplifying these voices. We collaborate with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to showcase films made by youth to serve as a data delivery system to the policymakers attending the annual climate summits known as the COP conferences. We invite further collaboration from similar global government agencies, NGOs, and research institutes.

The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) contributes to Planetary Health through its educational activities, mainly through the master’s degree on Planetary Health, launched in October 2022 in collaboration with the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal). UOC aims train professionals from different areas of knowledge in the analysis of the risks that the global environmental and climate crisis poses to human health, the assessment of its possible impacts, and the elaboration of adaptation and mitigation solutions, such as the design, planning and implementation of actions that guarantee the maintenance of the health and well-being of humanity within the planetary boundaries.

UNE joined as an institutional member of the Planetary Health Alliance in April 2017. Interested faculty and staff from UNE have formed a University Planetary Health Steering Committee to explore how UNE can contribute to the field of Planetary Health and how Planetary Health concepts can be more fully integrated into our curriculum and student learning experience.

The Centre for Global Health (CGH) at the University of Oslo (UiO) has been established to coordinate and facilitate educational and scientific activities related to global health. CGH aims to contribute to the strengthening of the interdisciplinary cooperation internally at UiO, nationally and with international actors that work on global health. CGH is building sustainable research excellence programs that acknowledge the interconnectedness of human well-being, animal health and our environment, and is co-chairing the ongoing Lancet One Health Commission.

The University of Oxford is deeply engaged in research and scholarship related to Planetary Health. We are taking steps to enhance our educational offering for addressing climate and ecological breakdown, of which the emerging discipline of Planetary Health is a key paradigm. The goals of the University are therefore well aligned with the mission, vision, and values of the PHA and we hope to add voice and value to the Planetary Health movement.

The University of Reading is a leading research and teaching institute for environmental science, including meteorology, agriculture and ecology. We are integrating these disciplines into our health and biomedical sciences research by supporting interdisciplinary funding proposals and through developing extensive collaborations with partners worldwide.

The University of Rochester takes a holistic approach to revitalizing communities. We listen for community-led solutions to addressing ecosystem health challenges. Ultimately, we would like to benchmark with other medical schools regarding a curriculum for a Planetary Health elective course.

The UR CTSI is taking first steps to incorporate planetary health into its education and research efforts. We are eager to explore how best to leverage the potential to engage the largest federally funded human-health research network in the US.

In order to fulfill this mission and vision it will be important for the DLSPH to continue to invest thoughtfully in collaborative models that integrate decision-makers and institutions in government, civil society, the public and private sector, and community-based organizations, with the potential for population health and health systems impact.

At the University of Vermont Osher Center for Integrative Health, we value the reciprocal relationship between the health of people and the planet, and we recognize that the current U.S. healthcare system has tremendous impacts on planetary health. Together, we are working to identify ways forward that will lead to better health for both people and the planet. We see integrative whole person health as a pathway toward planetary health, and we work to revolutionize healthcare through education, research, clinical practices, and policy.

The University of Vermont Press, launched in 2023 as a diamond open access publisher, invites scholars and members of the PHA to submit monographs and edited volumes for publication. Under the diamond model of open access, authors pay no book processing charges or fees and all UVM Press titles are free to download. With nearly one hundred programs already available to UVM students in areas related to planetary health, UVM is in a unique position to build greater capacity in this developing field. UVM Press welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with PHA and its membership as UVM grows its planetary health presence. Our goal is to bring high-quality, free research to everyone, removing the barriers to entry and the economic and social inequities that continue to put professional research out of reach for many.

The UW School of Public Health is grounded in teaching, research, and service. Our 10,000 graduates have gone on to transform communities, lead health organizations, and find solutions to emerging public health challenges.

The University of West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, advances research and education at the intersection of environmental change and human health, with a particular focus on local challenges faced by the Caribbean population. As a member of the Planetary Health Alliance, the University of West Indies supports the growth of the planetary health community through organizing a journal club as part of the Emerging Scholars Network, hosting relevant events, conducting new research, and integrating planetary health topics into its educational efforts.

The University of Wollongong supports ongoing research, education, and other initiatives that support a sustainable future, with efforts expanding across the School of Health and Society, the School of Geography and Sustainable Communities, the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, the SMART Infrastructure Facility, and the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security. The University of Wollongong works to better the future of the planet, and, as a member of the Planetary Health Alliance, collaborates with the planetary health community in research and education efforts addressing developmental, environmental, and health challenges.
