People and groups are committing to collective actions confronting destabilized natural systems’ impact on human health. Various resolutions, including an interprofessional pledge, are unifying efforts in promoting regenerative practices and advocating for holistic Planetary Health principles.

The Planetary Health Roadmap and Action Plan is a practical guide for achieving a healthier planet for all. The document, created by over 100 people from all around the world, emphasizes the need for immediate change to address the increasing degradation of Earth’s systems. It is a compass for a global movement focused on Planetary Health and includes actionable steps for practitioners, policymakers, educators, and the general public across governance, education, communication, and business practices.

Kuala Lumpur Call to Action

Six commitments were adopted at the 6th Planetary Health Annual Meeting and Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Kuala Lumpur Call to Action on Planetary Health lays out a compelling course of action for a global movement to address environmental challenges and build a regenerative future.

São Paulo Declaration on Planetary Health

The São Paulo Declaration on Planetary Health is a multi-stakeholder call to action co-created by the global Planetary Health community. It outlines the actions necessary for us to achieve the Great Transition, a safe and just transformation to a world that optimizes the health and well-being of all. There are more than 300 signatories from over 48 countries!

The São Paulo Declaration provides specific targets for various groups, including the agricultural sector and food systems; artists, poets, writers, and musicians; businesses; cities and urban planners; economists; financial institutions; funders; governments; health practitioners; the health sector; international organizations; jurists and lawmakers; media; researchers; schools; spiritual leaders of all faiths; technology professionals; universities and higher education; and youth representatives.

Academic Health Institutions’ Declaration on Planetary Health

Drafted with the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC), this declaration, signed by all of Canada’s academic health institutions and several others from around the world, calls on institutions to halt the negative impact of their activities on the planet’s natural systems. It urges an immediate shift to adaptive and regenerative measures, including through advocacy, and provides an action plan to support implementation of Planetary Health education and research and to transition to climate-resilient and low-carbon health systems.

Planetary Health Pledge

The Planetary Health Pledge is an interprofessional pledge based on the Declaration of Geneva to address the environmental threats to human health posed by the Anthropocene epoch. The Planetary Health Alliance urges professional bodies and health education institutions to incorporate Planetary Health values and principles into their mission statements. We also encourage graduation ceremonies to pledge commitment to Planetary Health to promote collaboration between professions in addressing these challenges.

Those who have taken the Planetary Health Pledge include the University of Minnesota School of Nursing, Canadian Federation of Medical Students, Filipino Health Professionals and Advocates, Sunway Center for Planetary Health, Doctors for Planetary Health, Health4Future, Italian Institute for Planetary Health, Trinity Western University School of Nursing, and many individuals.
