Building on the European Declaration on Heat and Health, endorsed by more than 130 organisations in August 2026, the Planetary Health Alliance Europe Regional Hub is now inviting individual health professionals, scientists and everyone working to protect human health across Europe to add their voices to this collective call for action.
Complementing Health Care Without Harm Europe’s #HandleTheHeat campaign, this Open Letter focuses on protecting populations from extreme heat through stronger, legally binding EU adaptation measures.
The Open Letter, list of signatories and related announcements are under embargo until their official publication, planned during COP31.
You may share this signature form with colleagues, but please do not publicly disclose the letter’s contents or signatories before then.
Extreme heat is an increasingly urgent threat to health across Europe. Protecting people and communities requires coordinated action across public health, healthcare, climate policy and other sectors.
Building on the European Declaration on Heat and Health, endorsed by more than 130 organisations in August 2026, the Planetary Health Alliance Europe Regional Hub is now inviting individual health professionals, scientists and everyone working to protect human health across Europe to add their voices to this collective call for action.
The Open Letter, “Another Deadly Summer in Europe: A radical change in ambition and resources is needed,” is addressed to the European Parliament and European Commission. It calls for effective, adequately funded and legally binding action on heat and health, with measurable health outcomes.

This initiative represents the next phase of the 2026 European Declaration on Heat and Health.
While the Declaration brought together institutional endorsements, the Open Letter seeks to mobilise thousands of individual signatories from the health and healthcare community and beyond, strengthening the collective call for ambitious European action on heat and health.
Signatures are being collected ahead of the planned public announcement during COP31. Until then, the initiative remains under embargo.
