The 2024 Planetary Health Summit and 6th Annual Meeting—hosted by the Planetary Health Alliance, Sunway Centre for Planetary Health, Sunway University, and Sunway Research & Development—brought together a diverse global community of scientists, policymakers, educators, young leaders, private sector representatives, and concerned planetary citizens. The event aimed to foster collaboration, seek solutions for the pressing challenges facing humanity, and equip participants with the tools and strategies needed to drive systemic change.

Recognizing the role that Asia plays in Planetary Health challenges and solutions, PHAM 2024 was the first of its kind to be held in Southeast Asia. With the theme “From Evidence to Action: Confronting Reality,” the summit emphasized the need for transdisciplinary approaches that integrate academic research with practical, real-world solutions. It also highlighted the importance of collaboration with other health-based movements, including One Health and Environmental Health, to ensure a unified response to global health challenges.

PHAM 2024 calls for the Planetary Health community to engage with regional and global processes, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the 2024 Summit for the Future, and initiatives led by the UN’s Resident Coordinators at the country level.

The takeaway was clear: For science to be transformational, it must be crafted for action and communicated in ways that the public can understand, and decision-makers can act on. One of the key outputs from the meeting is the Planetary Health Roadmap and Action Plan, which will guide our global community in advancing Planetary Health.
