Stanford University is building cross-campus and global partnerships to explore the intersections of human health and environment. Global health, engineering, environmental sciences, policy and other disciplines will drive educational and research opportunities for students and faculty. We look forward to dialogue and collaborations with PHA members.

The Stanford Human and Planetary Health Initiative works towards a vision of a thriving ecosystem and healthy communities worldwide. Based at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment at the Doerr School of Sustainability and in close partnership with the School of Medicine’s Center for Innovation in Global Health, the Initiative conducts solution-oriented research, creates knowledge, trains leaders, and drives impact in human and planetary health. Four interdisciplinary areas of focus guide our research and core activities: Climate & Health, Pollution & Health, Disease Ecology in a Changing World, and Food Systems, Health & the Environment. Along with enabling research, advancing education, convening the interdisciplinary Stanford community, and supporting impact-oriented initiatives, the Human and Planetary Health Initiative supports undergraduate and graduate education at Stanford through foundational planetary health coursework.

As we develop our human and planetary health work at Stanford, we look forward to sustaining nature while supporting health by: identifying and exploring new collaborations, exchanging resources, and advancing global collective planetary health priorities with other institutions.

Founded in 2020, the foundation Healthy Planet – Healthy People was created to add the voices of medical professionals to the debate on climate change.
Our new foundation is building on a unique set of skills and networks. Eckart von Hirschhausen is probably the best known medical doctor in Germany. He specialized on health communication with public television shows, books and stand-up comedy shows emphasizing the educational edge. We draw on ten years of experience of von Hirschhausen’s other foundation Humor Hilft Heilen (Humour Helps Healing) in the field of health. We are also collaborating with the medical consultancy Die Brückenköpfe (The Bridgeheads). Accordingly, we should be able to quickly create a meaningful impact on the debate of climate change.

SEI is an international non-profit research and policy organisation that tackles environment and development challenges critical for human health and wellbeing. Particular areas of focus include indoor and outdoor air pollution and energy alternatives; climate change implications for water and sanitation services; behaviour change and sustainable consumption patterns; and links between green space and wellbeing in urban areas.

In 2015, through a generous gift and endowment from Jim and Robin Herrnstein, Jim and Marilyn Simons, and the Della Pietra family, the Stony Brook University’s Global Health Institute (GHI) was established under the leadership of Dr. Peter Small. The institute aims to bridge and harness the expertise and interdisciplinary power of all 15 Stony Brook University schools and colleges to drive innovative health solutions in Madagascar and other developing countries.

Activities of PHC would be well aligned with SASNET GHANA’S programmes and activities without hesitation to achieving a common goal.

Sukaar Welfare Organization is a grassroots advocacy organization, committed to engage with like minded networks and organizations to achieve the sustainable development goals, jointly we can work more effectively for the marginalized and neglected segments of the society.

The Uruguayan Society of Family and Community Medicine (SUMEFAC) gathers family and community physicians in Uruguay. We believe in the importance of caring for the environment as well as for the health of the people, understanding that everything is related on Earth. To best protect our patients, we are also committed to working to protect the health and vitality of our planet.

Located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health is part of Sunway University, which aspires to become the first planetary health-oriented university in the world. Through the new Centre, Sunway University will contribute to the advancement of planetary health through education, research, making knowledge accessible, and engaging with people. The Centre will pioneer the application of the planetary health approach in Asia and the Pacific, regions most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and other planetary health challenges. It will provide a space for sharing knowledge about planetary health, translating academic discourse into easily accessible information, facilitating learning, and creating solutions together with a broad range of stakeholders to effect lasting systemic change.

The mission of the SUNY Downstate School of Public Health is to advance public health knowledge, promote health and well-being, and prevent disease and disability within communities, particularly in urban and immigrant ones. Such actions are accomplished through excellence in the education of public health professionals, scientific investigation of public health issues, and service to communities through collaborative partnerships.

The inception of SuBeHuDe in 2015, is based on promoting the achievement of UN key areas for sustainability (Social, Economic, and Environmental Development- SEED) of the present and future generations which is aligned with the Planetary Health Alliance’s work.

SuBeHuDe aims to collaborate with the Planetary Health community on training on sustainable beekeeping and value chain development, regenerative agriculture, social enterprises & social entrepreneurship development, environmental and biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, access to inclusive quality education, basic healthcare, clean and safe water, community capacity building, and personal development empowering with the tools to break the cycle of poverty.

SHEM conceives PHA as a core ally in the quest for promoting sustainable health equity so that we can mitigate any harmful effect that human-caused global environmental change on human health might produce on the wellbeing of future generations. It is our pleasure to join the PHA network.

Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods (SOIL) is working in some of the most impoverished and climate vulnerable communities in Haiti to expand access to safe, affordable, and restorative sanitation services. SOIL uses ecological processes to transform a public health crisis into an environmental solution through a holistic waste to resource model that maximizes positive environmental impacts across the entire sanitation chain. As a member of the Planetary Health Alliance, we are committed to seeking opportunities amongst members for networking and collaborating to promote the well-beiing of both people and planet.

Rouleaux Foundation is a non-profit organisation that is aimed at promoting science for sustainable development in Africa and by being a member of the Planetary Health Alliance (PHA) aims to build an intercollegiate, transnational, regional, and global collaboration to solve the challenges and advance the benefits of the relationship between the human health and environmental sciences. This would be by partnering with professional societies and other organisations making up the diverse landscape of the Planetary Health sciences.

RCPE enables physicians and their teams to deliver the highest standard of healthcare for patients, and improve the quality of health and prevention of disease through: engaging with policy makers, facilitating the training of the next generation of physicians via educational and mentorship opportunities, and building a global community of physicians that is cross disciplinary, generational, and geographically distributed. RCPE is committed to engaging its Fellows & Members in the Clinicians for Planetary Health initiative, galvanizing clinicians and their patients around Planetary Health through lifestyle modifications and activism to accelerate health promotion and disease prevention.

Royal Holloway University of London has a broad commitment to the cause of Planetary Health. We work to advance Planetary Health research, education, and policy and to support the emergence of an interdisciplinary Planetary Health community, including creative and critical work in the humanities and arts. We share the desire for a global public better educated about the connections between human health and our management of Earth’s natural systems, researchers better able to build transdisciplinary collaborations, and policymakers better positioned to consider the public health impacts of their resource management decisions.

In our own network and community, aspects of sustainability and conservation are often left out of the question while working with emergency response. When our team provides technical support, we makes sure to include a more holistic approach to our problem-solving methods. A more specific way we aim to advance Planetary Health, is working more closely with our local farmers in the upstate New York region, when coordinating food distribution suppliers. As for the Planetary Health Alliance, we love learning and growing within our community, and would love to bring this to the greater network as well. We plan to share all of our findings on our website, and we always share any insight we have directly with our constituents and community members. Likewise, we hope to present our findings or community-based insight to the greater PHA community.

Saint Louis University, a Laudato Si university, strongly promotes planetary health advocacies by steadfastly doing its tasks to promote and conscientiously perform environmental preservation and protection. Through the collective efforts of the university stakeholders, we actively perform our duties and responsibilities in promoting the integrity of creation. By joining the other Planetary Health Community members, we join the global movement in restoring and preserving our common home.

This collaboration aims to harness our collective expertise, resources, and networks to effectively address the complex interconnections between human health and environmental sustainability. Through initiatives such as the “Green Ambassadors Program,” we intend to engage local communities in advocating for sustainable practices that enhance public health and promote environmental stewardship.
In turn, we look forward to benefiting from the PHA’s extensive knowledge base, access to cutting-edge research, and opportunities for joint projects that will enhance our impact in Somalia and the broader Horn of Africa. Together, we aspire to contribute meaningfully to the global discourse on Planetary Health, fostering innovative solutions that tackle pressing challenges such as climate change, health disparities, and socio-economic development.

The Sankandi Youth Development Association (SYDA) is a registered charitable association in rural Gambia, it has grassroots project based in the Kiang West of The Gambia, in West Africa, and is focused on restoring the native mangrove forests and empower the rural communities. Our Mission is to help and enhance development of rural communities in Gambia while protecting the environment. Our Community Mangrove Conservation and Restoration Project involves planting mangrove propagules in degraded former mangrove forest in rural Gambia through community participations. We aim to collaborate with PHA to better make us in position to effectively contribute to protection of planet through planting and protecting trees through research.

The Department of Public Health and Infectious Diseases, Sapienza University of Rome, as a member of the Planetary Health Alliance, will contribute to Planetary Health in the fields of education and research on the following issues: 1) providing a comprehensive educational program for students of the Faculties of Medicine and Sciences; 2) introducing innovative research in these fields; 3) giving an annual report on climate change to the Decision Makers at the regional and National level.
