
Emmanuel Benyeogor is a Nigerian Epidemiologist with a profound expertise in information technology and data science, currently serves as an Impact Fellow at the Planetary Health Alliance (PHA). In this role he would support the coordination and expansion of the Planetary Health community globally in collaboration with the PHA team, Alliance members, and existing regional hubs to strategically develop and strengthen partnerships across geographies.
He is Doctor of Public Health candidate and Teaching Assistant at the Interfaculty Initiative for Planetary Health, Nagasaki University, Japan and currently exploring the implementation of LEAP approach for the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosure in Health care delivery settings.
He previously served as a Public Health Emergency (PHE) Manager at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in establishing and managing over 30 subnational Public Health Emergency Operation Centres, training more than 3,000 frontline responders. His strategic leadership during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic showcased his ability to foster clear communication and coordination within emergency response teams.
While at NCDC, Emmanuel was appointed as the incident management (IM) for Global Pandemic Influenza Simulation Exercise, lead as Plans section chief for National COVID-19 response and Operations lead for Emerging Viral Haemorrhagic Disease, surveillance pillar member and IM support group focusing on data management for Lassa fever, AMR and Mpox.
Emmanuel trained as an Epidemiologist and has worked as a consultant in private and public health institutes including Global Health Trials, PharmAccess Foundation, International Society for Infectious Disease Program for monitoring emerging disease (ProMED-AMR). He actively engages with mentors and mentees in Africa and his efforts aim to increase the engagement of Lower- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), fostering inclusivity and diversity within the larger Planetary Health community.
Emmanuel is a prestigious Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) PREPARE scholar (Partnership for Building Resilience against Public Health Emergencies through Advanced. Research and Education), Fleming fund antimicrobial resistance and YALI Regional Leadership Center fellow. He holds a M.Sc. from the University of Lagos, Nigeria in Public Health (Epidemiology track), a Diploma from NIIT, Lagos in Infrastructure Management and a B.Sc. from University of Benin in Biochemistry.
