Dr. Sadiq Surajo is an veterinarian and public health professional with extensive experience in One Health, zoonotic disease surveillance, animal welfare, food safety, and community-based public health interventions. They currently serve as a Senior Veterinary Officer with the Ministry of Livestock Development, Bauchi State, Nigeria. Sadiq also founded the NGO Veterinarians for Animal Welfare (VAW), which has led impactful animal health and zoonotic disease prevention initiatives.
Sadiq holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Maiduguri, a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Jos, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). They have received additional specialized training in security risk management, data collection, and One Health systems strengthening.
Their vision for the Planetary Health West Africa Regional Hub is to strengthen planetary health actions in West Africa by building a vibrant, inclusive, and multidisciplinary community that connects research, policy, and grassroots efforts. They aim to support capacity-building, foster youth engagement, and encourage evidence-based solutions that address climate change, biodiversity loss, emerging infectious diseases, and environmental health inequalities across the region.
