Senior Administrative Manager of The Johns Hopkins Institute for Planetary Health
 


Chris is the Senior Administrative Manager of The Johns Hopkins Institute for Planetary Health (JHIPH), which involves oversight of finance and human resource functions for the Institute and Planetary Health Alliance (PHA). He joined JHIPH from his prior role as CFO of the State Theater of Maryland. In that role, Chris managed a small operations team with functional oversight of finances, human resources, IT, and facilities.  

Prior to the State Theater of Maryland, Chris was the acting Deputy Director of Investments (CIO) for the State of Maryland, located in the Maryland State Treasurer’s Office. While there, he was responsible for managing the $15 billion general fund, allocating investment proceeds to State agencies, leading a system conversion, managing bank and broker relationships, participating in the annual audit, along with many other efforts.    
Before joining the State, Chris spent over 26 years filling multiple roles at the Baltimore-based investment management firm, T. Rowe Price.  He began his career at TRP in 1994 servicing clients with their investments and obtaining the FINRA series six, seven, and 63 licenses.  He was able to grow in his role and eventually manage five teams of licensed investment representatives as an Assistant Vice President, before transitioning from client service to operations. As Senior Manager and Vice President in Investment Operations, he was responsible for global cash management functions, recordkeeping, custodial relations, systems development, multi-national reconciliation, vendor management, leadership development, and many other functions.  Outside of the office, Chris received the United States Presidential Volunteer Service Award for his work as president of a small local non-profit, Baltimore Green Works which focused on sustainability.    

Chris has been board president of other local non-profits like Baltimore Community Rowing and the Roland Park Swimming Pool, along with other board positions at Baltimore Junior Association of Commerce and Santa Clause Anonymous.  He is a Certified Treasury Professional and holds a yellow belt in Lean/Six Sigma process improvements.  

He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from McDaniel College, and a Masters of Science in Business and Finance from Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.  While, originally from California, he has spent most of his life in Maryland, where he is currently raising a family with his wife between periodic triathlon races.
