Dr. Joshitha Sankam is an experienced Public Health Professional specializing in Planetary Health and Health Vulnerability & Adaptation to Climate Change. Currently, she is a Consultant in Climate Change and Health at the Divecha Centre for Climate Change at the Indian Institute of Science. In this capacity, she conducts impactful training programs and workshops for health professionals on the intricate connections between climate change and health.
Prior to this she held the pivotal position of Lead - Health Sensitization and Science Officer at Future Earth Global Hub-South Asia. In this role, she spearheaded Health Sensitization initiatives, placing a strong emphasis on vital areas such as Nutrition, Coastal Health Risk (with a focus on disaster response), and Urban Heat, all within the context of a rapidly changing climate. Before that, she contributed as a Research Associate at Azim Premji University, where her research focused on tools and methods for assessing health vulnerability and adaptation to climate change.
She earned her Bachelor's in Dentistry before going on to pursue her Master's degree in Public Health from Prasanna School of Public Health, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, with a specialization in Global Health, as an exchange student from Maastricht University in the Netherlands. She trained in 2020 as a Climate Reality Leader at The Climate Reality Project. She is also a part of the “Women Leaders of Planetary Health” community. She envisions a future where Planetary Health and well-being are prioritized, fostering harmony among all Earth's inhabitants and the delicate balance of our planet.
