To ensure a liveable future, we will need rapid transformational change in how we’re living across all of our systems: food, energy, manufacturing, green chemistry, and the built environment.

This month, we’re excited to share powerful momentum across the Planetary Health movement. From the launch of the Sunway Charter – Faith in Action: Addressing Planetary Health Challenges through Spiritual Leadership, which brought together interfaith leaders to explore the vital role of faith communities in advancing Planetary Health, to a new partnership with the United Nations Development Programme establishing a Collaborating Centre on Planetary Health, we’re seeing transformative steps toward global policy and action.

In honor of World Environment Day, we teamed up with the Public Health Communications Collaborative to create Planetary Health is Public Healtha guide providing foundational information about Planetary Health and explaining its connection to public health. You’ll also find best practices, geared toward public health communicators, for communicating about Planetary Health with the public and addressing misconceptions. Check it out and consider sharing it with the public health communicators in your network!

June also marked the first-ever Planetary Health Cities Symposium, which convened global experts to discuss urban resilience, environmental justice, and community health. Stay tuned for a follow-up report outlining key takeaways! Meanwhile, Planetary Health took center stage at the International Council of Nurses Congress in Finland, where over 7,000 nurses gathered for a symposium and the release of a new Planetary Health Topic Brief shared with National Nursing Associations in more than 130 countries. Three of the symposium speakers — Teddie Potter, Barbara Astle, and Nightingale Wakigera Uchtmann — are members of the Planetary Health Alliance.

Finally, don’t miss our upcoming webinars. One webinar, co-hosted by PHA with the Climate Change and Antimicrobial Resistance Network and Skating Panda, offers lessons from “real-world” implementation for advancing Planetary Health. Another, the first of the new Planetary Health in the Arts series, explores the role of creativity in this time of ecological and social transformation through a film which demonstrates how Indigenous leaders and scientific researchers collaborate to protect and steward Australia’s river ecosystems. We hope to see you there!
