We aim to share the efforts of Japanese healthcare professionals who are promoting the concept of planetary health with colleagues around the world. Our organization is committed to supporting the mission and values of the Planetary Health Alliance and contributing the strengths of Japan’s medical community. We also seek to ensure that Japanese healthcare professionals remain actively engaged in global discussions by expressing our commitment to the vital connection between a healthy environment and human health.

Being one of the 14 research and training centres that comprise the UNU system as well as a UN think tank, the mission of UNU-IIGH is to build knowledge and capacity for decision-making by UN agencies, programmes, and Member States about global health issues. The aim is to contribute to the development and strengthening of health services policy frameworks and management actions, particularly for people in developing countries, and to support implementation of promotive and preventive approaches to human health.

Institute of Science Tokyo aims to strengthen and promote research and other activities in planetary health science through collaboration with institutions around the world. The Institute also promotes the field by training leaders in the field of medicine and public health who are capable of formulating new initiatives in planetary health science as well as informing health professionals in Japan and overseas about reliable scientific evidence.

The Department of Global Health Policy (GHP) at the University of Tokyo conducts research of global health significance. As an active member of the Planetary Health Alliance, the GHP encourages student and faculty involvement in Planetary Health events and projects. The collaborative works of GHP with the planetary health community in research and education addresses global environmental, and health challenges.

The IDEC Institute, Hiroshima University aims to establish a global interdisciplinary research center that links the disciplines of research on peace, science, engineering, agriculture and health sciences. For tackling various Planetary Health issues, we will implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from the aspect of education and research by promoting flexible and innovative transdisciplinary research and providing a place for technological innovation.

We at Nagasaki University aim to coexist with the earth through our research and activities related to the global environment and ecosystems, with an emphasis on sustainability. We believe it is necessary to educate people to have a planetary-health mindset in the pursuit of inquiry to mobilize questions and move toward the answers.

Kumamoto University aims to preserve and conserve natural resources, and innovate technologies and environment to foster the growth of healthy planet. Kumamoto University will contribute to the PHA network through identification and visualization, and development of natural resources, especially focusing on useful plants. We are very much looking forward to collaborating with PHA members.

Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) is collaborating with various stakeholders to identify current challenges and explore potential solutions to address the impact of environmental changes on our health through a “Planetary Health” perspective. HGPI aims to raise awareness and encourage individuals to take action toward creating a resilient and sustainable healthcare system that minimizes the negative environmental impact on health.

Friends of WHO Japan is very pleased to join in the Planetary Health Alliance. The purpose of this Corporation is to disseminate the spirit of the World Health Organization (WHO) Charter and to promote health and wellbeing of the people of Japan and the world. We would like to promote Planetary Health in the spirit of primary health care and global health.
