Press Release about PHA’s New Website

The following press release is intended to assist Alliance members and partners with sharing news about the redesigned Planetary Health Alliance website.

Planetary Health Alliance Launches Website to Celebrate and Accelerate Global Action

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, DC — The Planetary Health Alliance (PHA), a global consortium dedicated to understanding and addressing the impacts of global-scale environmental change on human health, has launched a completely redesigned website that transforms how researchers, educators, policymakers, and other inquisitive individuals access Planetary Health resources and connect with the global movement.

The new website (https://planetaryhealthalliance.org/) represents a key moment in making Planetary Health knowledge accessible and solutions actionable around the world. Planetary Health is a solutions-oriented, transdisciplinary field and social movement focused on analyzing and addressing the impacts of human disruptions to Earth’s natural systems on human health and all life on Earth. The website launch serves as a kickoff for a year-long global campaign honoring the 10th anniversary of the field of Planetary Health.

“This digital platform marks an evolution in the growth of Planetary Health as a scientific field and social movement,” said Marie Studer, PhD, Executive Director of the Planetary Health Alliance. “By creating this comprehensive hub, we are putting forth knowledge and action that will help address worsening interconnected health and environment challenges.”

A Nexus for Planetary Health Knowledge and Action

The redesigned website features:

  • Comprehensive Resource Library: Nearly 2,000 filterable resources demonstrating the knowledge and scientific evidence base while also showcasing innovative solutions worldwide
  • Regional Hub Spotlight: Enhanced visibility for PHA’s regional hubs spanning Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Oceania
  • Stories from the Field“: Powerful lived experience video narratives produced by the Next Generation Youth Council, highlighting real impacts and solutions
  • Educational Foundations: Content overviews about environmental changes (air pollution, biodiversity loss, chemical pollution, climate change, resource scarcity, land use change, nutrient cycling, ocean degradation) and corresponding health impacts across mental health, infectious and noncommunicable diseases, direct injuries, child and maternal health, and nutrition—all linked to a robust database of additional citations
  • Educator Support: Extensive resources for educators including the Planetary Health Education Framework, case studies, and teaching materials
  • Learner Support: A global inventory of Planetary Health courses spanning world regions and levels of involvement
  • Multiple Pathways for Engagement: Clear guidance for how individuals and organizations can be involved in the movement at every level of commitment, from newsletter subscribers to systems-change implementers
  • Worldviews-Based Initiatives: New pages exploring the intersection of Planetary Health with spirituality, faith communities, and inner dimensions
  • Community Engagement Tools: Dedicated spaces for PHA’s regional hubs, clinician network, and next-generation leaders
  • Interactive Listings: Regularly updated events, job opportunities, funding announcements, and news relevant to the field contributed by members and curated by PHA secretariat staff; PHA’s 495+ member organizations can easily submit and share resources

Marking a Decade of Planetary Health

The website launch coincides with the 10th anniversary of the report of the The Rockefeller Foundation – Lancet Commission on Planetary Health, which established Planetary Health as a field. Celebration activities will reach a crescendo at the Planetary Health Annual Meeting in Rotterdam this October.

“What makes this platform transformative is how it simultaneously serves newcomers to Planetary Health while providing sophisticated resources for our most engaged practitioners,” said Jessica Kronstadt, Program Director at PHA. “The redesigned Hylo community platform complements the website perfectly, creating a seamless ecosystem for connecting people taking action worldwide.”

Personalized Engagement for All

Site visitors can tailor their experience through:

  • Site-wide content filtering by environmental changes and health impacts
  • Regional Hub connections for local action
