Dr. Joshitha Sankam is an experienced Public Health Professional specializing in Planetary Health and Health Vulnerability & Adaptation to Climate Change. Currently, she serves as a Project Officer- Loss & Damage and Health at the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre. In this role, she provides science-based advice on loss and damage and health nexus. She also assists in the development of knowledge and capacity-building products related to climate impacts, loss and damage, adaptation, vulnerability, resilience, and transparency.
Previously, she was a Consultant in Climate Change and Health at the Divecha Centre for Climate Change at the Indian Institute of Science. In this role, she conducted impactful training programs and workshops for health professionals, focusing on the intricate connections between climate change and health. Prior to this, she served as the Lead – Health Sensitization and Science Officer at Future Earth Global Hub-South Asia, where she spearheaded initiatives in key areas such as Nutrition, Coastal Health Risk (focusing on disaster response), and Urban Heat, all within the context of a rapidly changing climate and its health impacts. Earlier in her career, Dr. Sankam contributed as a Research Associate at Azim Premji University, where her research focused on developing tools and methods for assessing health vulnerability and adaptation to climate change.
Dr. Joshitha Sankam has degrees in Dentistry and Public Health, specializing in Global Health.
