Youth Engagement Lead

Onyinyechi Henry Chukwuebuka is the newly appointed Lead for Youth Engagement at the Planetary Health Alliance (PHA) West Africa Regional Hub. He is a seasoned public health practitioner with over six years of frontline experience in epidemiology, disease control, and community health programming across Nigeria.

Currently, as a Scientific Officer with the Abia State Ministry of Health, Henry is at the forefront of public health emergency response. He actively supports the State Epidemiologist in disease surveillance, using digital tools like SORMAS for case investigation and contact tracing. His role involves coordinating partner engagement at the State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC), conducting epidemiological analysis to guide outbreak response, and leading field supervision to strengthen local surveillance systems for epidemic-prone diseases.

Previously, as a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and State Technical Facilitator with the Abia State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Henry directly supported the implementation and evaluation of critical maternal and child health programs. He has led technical support and capacity-building initiatives for health workers at the Local Government Area (LGA) level, ensuring high-quality service delivery during immunization campaigns like the National Immunization Plus Days (nOPV2).

Henry holds a Master’s in Public Health and is certified in Global Health Project Management. In his new role, he is committed to leveraging his extensive field experience to mobilize, inspire, and equip a new generation of planetary health leaders. His vision is to build a resilient youth network across West Africa that is empowered to drive innovative solutions and advocate for policies that ensure the health of both people and the planet.
