Just as human health and cities are inextricably linked, cities and human civilization are inextricably linked to the health of the planet. Humans build cities, and almost all urbanization has resulted in ecosystem destruction, which in turn feeds back into human civilization in the form of climate crises, pandemics, and biosphere collapse. The impact of humanity on our planet and its ecosystems has become so inescapable and decisive that we call this century the Anthropocene.

World Obesity Federation works with its members and partners to prevent, manage and treat obesity globally. A particular area of interest is the Global Syndemic of Obesity, Undernutrition and Climate Change, and the shared drivers and dysfunctional systems that need to be urgently addressed. World Obesity is working to convene leaders to help break down silos and collaborate effectively across these issues, with a particular focus on addressing food systems and urban environments. By working with the Planetary Alliance we hope to foster collaboration and joined up thinking to protect the health of our people, environment and planet.

With human health and the health of our environment inextricably linked, WWF strives to bring a stronger practice of conservation into the holistic paradigm of Planetary Health. Through contributing thought partnership to multi-disciplinary dialogue around planetary health, and likewise integrating the science of impacts of environmental degradation on human health into effective conservation, we envision bolstering solutions and a narrative that translate consistently across conservation and public health disciplines, securing greater attention, momentum, political will, and ultimately interventions that can withstand the winds of change in governments – and yield the scale of results our changing world needs. This might be done through joint communications, targeted workshops, advocacy campaigns with new collaborators, or other avenues to which WWF can directly contribute.

The overarching vision for the ICSU-IAMP-UNU Urban Health Programme are people to develop aspired levels of wellbeing by living in healthy cities. The goals of the programme are to create knowledge about the multi-faceted determinants and drivers of health and wellbeing in urban environments and communicate this knowledge with science, policy and for capacity building.

United for Global Mental Health is an international NGO working on mental health policy and advocacy across the world at the global and national levels. One of our areas of work focuses on the intersection of climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss with mental health. We are excited to be joining the Planetary Health Alliance to call for health (both physical and mental) to be integrated across actions to respond to the planetary crisis.

The Sense of Silence Foundation aims at providing environmentally responsible technical solutions to monitor biodiversity worldwide and help restoring damaged habitat. Created in the deep-ocean, this technology has expanded from the floated rainforest to extreme polar conditions, facing the challenge of giving back a balance to Nature through the analysis of its sounds. Sharing with the Planetary Health Alliance what probably represents the largest bioacoustics Big Data in the world contributes to create a scientific communication channel between human health experts and biodiversity conservation needs.

The Plantrician Project educates, equips and empowers today’s healthcare professionals with knowledge of the indisputable benefits of whole food plant-based eating for human and Planetary Health. Evidence demonstrates that plant-based nutrition is a leading opportunity for solving today’s greatest health and environmental challenges. Through education programs, materials and partnerships, we’ve grown a global community of healthcare professionals capable of supporting their patients’ shift toward plant-forward lifestyles, thereby exponentially impacting their communities and the future of healthcare. We have a network of resources and education opportunities to connect to the Planetary Health Alliance network members to help leaders gain knowledge and tools to better understand and promote plant-based nutrition for global health. We are a ready partner to collaborate, co-present, and connect speakers for educational events focused on the interconnected role of food, health and environmental health.

The Time + Tide Foundation initiates social and environmental projects in protected Southern African ecosystems. As a member of the Planetary Health Alliance, we hope to contribute to international research and policy discussions on the ways in which biodiversity conservation affects the perceived and actual human health challenges of protected area residents.

Transition Earth aims to increase awareness of the effects of population growth and unsustainable resource use on people and the planet. Transition Earth contributes to the mission and work of the Planetary Health Alliance by effectively highlighting the connections between conservation, health, rights and development issues and showcasing successful initiatives in this arena through education, advocacy, and storytelling.

Tree Uganda Academy (TUA) is dedicated to environmental stewardship in Uganda through building the capacity of local communities and unleashing access to essential ecosystem services to better enable local communities’ participation in planetary problem solving. As a member of PHA, we commit to contribute to PHA’s research related to Planetary Health, Climate change and Community empowerment as well as advocacy for Climate Justice. Moreover we shall increase the PHA’s visibility through our awareness creation campaigns and sharing news letters across our networks and social media platforms.

By joining the Planetary Health Alliance, UNITE is hoping to bring its 300 plus network of parliamentarians closer to the topic of Planetary Health, and its concerning issues, to enable them to express their views, inputs and experience in a productive and constructive manner, and understand how can they make use of their position as policymakers to advance laws and regulations on Planetary Health. The Virsa Foundation, Inc. is a 501c3 MA nonprofit which promotes the awareness of various intersectional issues pertaining to public and planetary health via behavioral research, coalitioning & campaigning for policy change and by creating multimedia advocacy content, especially for BIPOC communities in the United States, South Asia and elsewhere in the Global South. Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME) aims to make Planetary Health a key part of its policy and development work. As an organisation, we will try promote for further integration of Planetary Health in medical education both in the UK and abroad. We aim to engage with other members of the alliance interested in medical curriculum for all types of healthcare workers and collaborate on project with members of the European Hub.
