The Greenzine is excited to partner with the Global Planetary Health Alliance to expand our coverage and offer support to young and aspiring climate advocates. The intersectional nature of the climate crisis, public health crisis, and biodiversity collapse demands creative and insightful storytelling to galvanize the public to demand transformative change. There are countless solutionists across the globe that are actively working to address the climate crisis, and we are so excited to amplify and support their voices by joining this community.

The Ocean Research & Conservation Association’s mission aligns with the Planetary Health Alliance’s commitment to understanding and addressing global environmental change and its health impacts. Specifically, we are focused on how anthropogenic nonpoint source pollution has accumulated in the environment to the point that it is impacting the health of humans and animals. Working in collaboration with the Planetary Health community, our goal is to understand and mitigate the health impacts of pollution, while simultaneously working to stop the pollution at its source.

Swasti is a global health equity CSO aiming to add 100 million healthy days to the lives of the most marginalized by 2030. Established in 2004, we believe that this can only be achieved through people-centered health systems. Swasti’s scale of operations in the past has covered 25 countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, reaching over 2 million people from diverse communities, such as sex workers, migrants, farmers, factory workers, and slum dwellers.

Over the years, as a public health organization, we have come to realize that it is insufficient to focus on interventions related to health without considering planetary health and its impact on the communities. We especially realize the significance of climate change on the vulnerable communities we work with and the multiple, intersecting burdens it causes in terms of loss of health and livelihood. This ranges from increased heat-related illness and mortality to increased spread of vector-borne and water-borne pathogens causing malaria, dengue, cholera, and other diseases, as well as rising food insecurity due to changing crop production patterns. Climate change also creates more disaster-prone areas and humanitarian settings that have serious implications for Swasti’s work in community and public health.

Through membership in the Planetary Health Alliance, we hope to learn from the experiences of other organizations working in the Global South in implementing planetary health interventions for vulnerable communities. This can include technical support and consultations, joint research, advocacy, and capacity building on various planetary health issues.

We remain committed to achieving a vision where climate change is mitigated, and vulnerable communities enjoy good health and well-being despite the major climatic risks they currently face.

The Swedish Organization for Global Health (SOGH) is a student-led organization at Karolinska Institutet, primarily comprised of international students representing the Biomedical Science, Health Economics & Policy, Global Health and Public Health programmes. The international landscape of the organization means that there is a wide range of cultural backgrounds; the members of SOGH would be pleased to contribute to the translation of the planetary health materials in their native languages and perhaps mold them to the cultural contexts they’re familiar with. In addition, SOGH often organizes educational seminars and workshops, sometimes collaborating with other organizations in the public health and environmental sustainability sphere. We are hoping that being members of the network will help us connect with other organizations working at the nexus of health and the environment. We would love to get to know the other members of the PHA network and share ideas on how to more effectively apply the planetary health values to our current activities as well as potentially start new ones. Lastly, we are committed to promoting the PHA Next Generation Network to the members of our group. We are excited to join the network and see what opportunities await!

Tarqabin Nusantara Group is dedicated to advancing Planetary Health by integrating sustainable practices and health education into our research and community projects. Through publishing high-quality research on environmental health and implementing community-based initiatives like green health clinics and sustainable agriculture programs, we aim to promote holistic well-being. The mission of The Big Fix is to change the story to grow a collaborative solutions-focused culture. The organisation uses a cross-sector and interdisciplinary approach to demonstrate how we can redesign our systems so that all species can thrive.

The Lancet Countdown: Tracking Progress on Health and Climate Change is an international research collaboration, dedicated to tracking the world’s response to climate change, and the health benefits that emerge from this transition. Reporting annually in The Lancet, it will follow a series of indicators, demonstrating that this transition is possible, that it has already begun, but that more work is needed.

The Scottish Managed Sustainable Health Network (SMaSH) provides a mechanism though which partners can collaborate to lead and motivate change, at a pace and scale that improves sustainability, and in a way which maximises health and equity. The network contributes to Planetary Health through highlighting the role the wide public health system has to play in sustainable energy and resource use, reductions in environmental vulnerability, and realising the potential for co-benefits in human health.

The Museum is dedicated to inspiring curiosity, discovery, and learning about the natural world through its unparalleled research, collections, exhibitions, and education outreach programs. Opened in 1910, the green-domed museum on the National Mall was among the first Smithsonian building constructed exclusively to house the national collections and research facilities.

We, the Sociedad Chilena de Salud Planetaria (Planetary Health Chilean Society), make this statement of collaboration with the Planetary Health Alliance, in order to express our commitment to actively participate and work together to further planetary health in Chile and worldwide. As a society, we advocate for the development of planetary health at a local and global level, promoting dialogue and reflection, as well as the development and use of science and evidence to empower people and guide policies in order to promote sustainable development. We are committed to share experiences, promote education, empower people, and actively participate in activities in order to foster planetary health

The SA Academy of Family Physicians is a professional body for family physicians in South Africa. We recognise the impact of climate change on our patients and communities in southern Africa. Joining the Planetary Health Alliance will motivate further commitment to the issue within the Academy leadership and members. We hope to inform our members more actively on the issues, both the impact of the environmental crises on public health as well as the contribution of the health services to the problems. We plan to learn from other members of the PHA on how to do this and to include our voice in advocacy through the PHA for the issues to be tackled with greater urgency on global and national levels.

The Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine (semFYC) is the Federation of 17 scientific societies of Spain. Being a very active member of the WONCA Europe, the WONCA Iberoamerican CIMF and the WONCA World organizations, the semFYC gathers 20.000 Family Doctors and promotes strong Primary Health Care systems in order to create healthier and better societes. semFYC is committed to Planetary Health and has joined the “Declaration calling for Family Doctors of the World to act on Planetary Health”. Our 20.000 Family Doctors prescribe Planetary Health every day and have become environment ambassadors.

The Uruguayan Society of Family and Community Medicine (SUMEFAC) gathers family and community physicians in Uruguay. We believe in the importance of caring for the environment as well as for the health of the people, understanding that everything is related on Earth. To best protect our patients, we are also committed to working to protect the health and vitality of our planet.

The inception of SuBeHuDe in 2015, is based on promoting the achievement of UN key areas for sustainability (Social, Economic, and Environmental Development- SEED) of the present and future generations which is aligned with the Planetary Health Alliance’s work.

SuBeHuDe aims to collaborate with the Planetary Health community on training on sustainable beekeeping and value chain development, regenerative agriculture, social enterprises & social entrepreneurship development, environmental and biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, access to inclusive quality education, basic healthcare, clean and safe water, community capacity building, and personal development empowering with the tools to break the cycle of poverty.

Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods (SOIL) is working in some of the most impoverished and climate vulnerable communities in Haiti to expand access to safe, affordable, and restorative sanitation services. SOIL uses ecological processes to transform a public health crisis into an environmental solution through a holistic waste to resource model that maximizes positive environmental impacts across the entire sanitation chain. As a member of the Planetary Health Alliance, we are committed to seeking opportunities amongst members for networking and collaborating to promote the well-beiing of both people and planet.

Rouleaux Foundation is a non-profit organisation that is aimed at promoting science for sustainable development in Africa and by being a member of the Planetary Health Alliance (PHA) aims to build an intercollegiate, transnational, regional, and global collaboration to solve the challenges and advance the benefits of the relationship between the human health and environmental sciences. This would be by partnering with professional societies and other organisations making up the diverse landscape of the Planetary Health sciences.

RCPE enables physicians and their teams to deliver the highest standard of healthcare for patients, and improve the quality of health and prevention of disease through: engaging with policy makers, facilitating the training of the next generation of physicians via educational and mentorship opportunities, and building a global community of physicians that is cross disciplinary, generational, and geographically distributed. RCPE is committed to engaging its Fellows & Members in the Clinicians for Planetary Health initiative, galvanizing clinicians and their patients around Planetary Health through lifestyle modifications and activism to accelerate health promotion and disease prevention.

In our own network and community, aspects of sustainability and conservation are often left out of the question while working with emergency response. When our team provides technical support, we makes sure to include a more holistic approach to our problem-solving methods. A more specific way we aim to advance Planetary Health, is working more closely with our local farmers in the upstate New York region, when coordinating food distribution suppliers. As for the Planetary Health Alliance, we love learning and growing within our community, and would love to bring this to the greater network as well. We plan to share all of our findings on our website, and we always share any insight we have directly with our constituents and community members. Likewise, we hope to present our findings or community-based insight to the greater PHA community.
