Tatiana Camargo

Tatiana is a biologist and Associate Professor, researching and teaching about science education in different contexts (in schools, for community action, and health care) and for different public audiences (children, women farmers, indigenous populations and quilombos) aiming to promote scientific literacy as a key tool for exercising full citizenship.

She is a member of the Brazilian Planetary Health Study Group, Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of São Paulo and coordinates the Brazilian 2021 Planetary Health Ambassador Program. Her work with Planetary Health is focused on gender equity and rural communities. Furthermore, she is co-authoring the 2021 Lancet Countdown Policy Briefing for Brazil. As a PHA Education Fellow she will help develop and implement a range of Planetary Health resources, support local initiatives and explore other kinds of education initiatives, such as teacher trainings, citizen science projects in rural communities – with special attention to incorporate the knowledges of traditional peoples from the Global South, particularly Latin America.

She is the mother of two children and resident of a small rural community in the middle of the rainforest in southern Brazil. In her free time she loves to explore and experience the abundant beauty and biodiversity of nature around her on long walks through the forest.
