Please note all materials created by the Planetary Health Alliance are registered in the Creative Commons under a CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license attributed to Johns Hopkins University as of 2025. This license allows for these projects to be shared as widely as possible while also protecting them from distribution without adequate credit or for commercial purposes. User-Generated Content Agreement


Regarding the content that the Planetary Health Alliance shares, PHA follows guidelines established by the secretariat host institution, Johns Hopkins University, reproduced here:

By [submitting shareable content to PHA], you certify that:

  1. You produced the content yourself and have the right to share it

  2. You have permission from anyone appearing in the photos or video to share the content

Photography, Audio, and Video Release

I, the individual identified in the form linking to this site (“Creator/Donor”), hereby releases all rights to, and gives, donates, assigns, conveys, transfers and delivers to Johns Hopkins, irrevocably, unconditionally and without any restriction of any kind, all right, title and interest, including copyright in the submitted photograph(s), audio recording(s), and/or video recording(s) to allow Johns Hopkins to use such photographs, video recordings and/or audio recordings (the “Works”) by any method or device now known or devised in any media throughout the world. This grant is perpetual. I agree that I shall have no right of approval and no claim to compensation hereunder.

Creator/Donor represents and warrants that prior to this release Creator/Donor had good and merchantable title to the Works, that the Works are being transferred free and clear of all debts, liens, claims, charges, restrictions, and any other encumbrances or liabilities whatsoever, and that Creator/Donor has the authority to transfer the Works as set forth in this Release. Creator/Donor waives all rights to compensation, royalties, or attribution, and understands that the Works may be used by Johns Hopkins by any method or device now known or devised in any media throughout the world. Photography/Videography Release


PHA requires this signed release when submitted photos or videos include a recognizable person, a visible human face, or an illustration based on a real person. A release must be received from all recognizable individuals in the image. If the subject is under age 18, the release must be completed by a parent or legal guardian.

What is the Regional Hub network?

Independently led Planetary Health Regional Hubs function as locally rooted communities of practice, bringing together PHA members within geographic clusters to collaboratively advance Planetary Health research, education, policy, and outreach pertinent to specific local contexts.

Regional Hubs develop their own governance structure and  strategy. PHA facilitates inter-hub networking through the Online Community and lends ad hoc support. Learn more about Planetary Health Regional Hubs >

Can I join more than one Regional Hub?

Yes! You may join as many Regional Hubs as you identify with. Member organizations with activities spanning multiple Hubs are welcome and encouraged to join as many Hubs as they deem fit.

What is the Planetary Health Education Framework?

The Planetary Health Education Framework aims to guide the education of global citizens, practitioners, and professionals able and willing to address the complex Planetary Health challenges of our world today. The Framework can be understood as a common foundational language that serves as the cornerstone for diverse education strategies.

The Planetary Health Education Framework considers five foundational domains that we as a community believe comprise the essence of Planetary Health knowledge, values, and practice:

(1) interconnection within Nature;

(2) the Anthropocene and health;

(3) equity and social justice;

(4) movement building and systems change;

(5) systems thinking and complexity.

What is the Global Roadmap and Action Plan?

The Planetary Health Roadmap and Action Plan is a comprehensive guide that outlines actionable steps for creating a healthier planet and sustainable future. Released in 2024 alongside the Kuala Lumpur Call to Action, the Action Plan focuses on six key areas: measuring Planetary Health, effective communication, education for just transition, holistic governance, balancing business needs, and mainstreaming Planetary Health principles. The Roadmap builds on the São Paulo Declaration and provides practical guidance for individuals, organizations, and policymakers to integrate Planetary Health into decision-making and daily practices. Working groups were convened to aid the implementation of these actions, with progress to be reported at future meetings.

What is the Next Generation Network?

The Planetary Health Next Generation Network (Next Gen) is composed of students and young leaders worldwide who are dedicated to advancing the emerging field of Planetary Health through local community efforts, educational events, and research projects. This network stitches together the Planetary Health Campus Ambassadors (PHCAs), Planetary Health student leaders and members, former and current Travel Scholars to Planetary Health Annual Meetings, and many more Next Gen leaders from around the world! The PHA staff and Impact Fellows work to support these diverse efforts by providing introductory resources, workshop materials, mentorship opportunities, and community-building platforms.

What is the Planetary Health Campus Ambassador program?

The Planetary Health Campus Ambassador (PHCA) program is a competitively awarded leadership opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students committed to engaging their campus community around Planetary Health. During the program, Ambassadors build their Planetary Health network and gain leadership and organizational skills with the support of their diverse PHCA cohort, PHA staff, and Alliance Members.

Current undergraduate or graduate students interested in Planetary Health from all disciplines and geographies are encouraged to apply. (Applications typically open in late fall for the following calendar year.) PHCAs commit to a year-long term in which they organize activities, events, or projects, check in frequently with fellow campus ambassadors, and attend PHA-organized workshops.

What is Clinicians for Planetary Health (C4PH)?

Clinicians for Planetary Health (C4PH) is a global effort to galvanize health professionals, patients, and communities around Planetary Health through lifestyle modifications and activism. We recognize that physicians, nurses, and other health professionals have a unique capacity to understand and communicate about Planetary Health challenges and the strategies that individuals can take to safeguard their health and the health of the environment. C4PH brings together practitioners and resources to engage clinicians in advancing Planetary Health.

What is Earthrise?

Earthrise is a community dedicated to inspiring a “great awakening” for Planetary Health through intentional spiritual relationships—with nature, others, and our own inner capacities. It seeks to promote awareness, skills, and imagination for more enlightened approaches to our global challenges. Through gatherings, scholarly activities, artistic works, contemplative practices, and regular conversations, the community seeks to inspire planetary consciousness through creativity, connectedness, and convergence of diverse perspectives. These activities seek to influence and enrich both academic discourse and social movements to accelerate ethical and cultural change.

What is the Planetary Health Annual Meeting (PHAM)?

The Planetary Health Annual Meeting (PHAM) brings together the global Planetary Health community once every approximately 18 months to learn about the latest Planetary Health science, knowledge, and best practices; find community; seek solutions and build skills for action and change. All are invited to this convening of scientists, youth, policymakers, educators, the private sector, artists, and more. Many recorded sessions are on the Planetary Health Alliance YouTube channel, and information about past meetings is available in our website’s Events section.
